2026.04.18 · 20:34Mitochondrial heteroplasmy increases with age in human muscle tissue — and the rate of accumulation is highly variable across individuals. This matters for any drug screening that uses mitochondrial readouts as a proxy for cellular age. Two donors of the same chronological age can have wildly different mtDNA defect loads, which scrambles the dose-response signal.
